Beatification of the Martins...

Louis and Zélie Martin

Parents of Thérèse of Lisieux

Redmond, Fr Paulinus

The father and mother of a great saint.

Thérèse of Lisieux is one of the world’s best known saints and a Doctor of the Church. Her four surviving sisters all also entered into convents. What kind of family life fostered so many vocations and such a great saint? Thérèse’s parents Louis and Zélie Martin lived a full life: they were business people, experienced joys and tragedies, including the loss of children, of a wife to cancer and the suffering of mental illness. They made mistakes but lived a life deeply grounded in prayer, faith and a great love for the Church. Fr Redmond uses letters and many biographical details to describe the soil in which the ‘Little Flower’ grew

Louis and Zélie Martin

I don't know about you, but I say it's "high time" for this beatification of this magnificent couple, who gave us St Therese and all of her saintly sisters! I love them all. I've come to know them by reading and this is definitely a well deserved honor for these two beloved parents. We don't have saints if we don't have mothers and fathers who raised them in the confines of the 3 theological virtues that obviously flourished in their home - faith hope and love make saints and parents who were graced and lived so piously are to be honored and what a lovely Mass I'm watching now. I'd love to be at Lisieux but how nice to have t.v. to see the faithful gather to honor this precious couple. How we thank you, Louis and Zelie for your faithfulness and piety giving us a Dr. of the Church and her dear and precious sisters to learn about and grow closer to Jesus by their stories.
