The Virgin’s Hymn at the Foot of the Cross

Little did I think, my Son, that one day I would see you thus,
Little would I have believed,
Even seeing that wild, ungodly crowd
With treacherous hands outstretched to you,
Their children still have the word “hosanna” on their lips
And strewn palms along the road still remind us
Of the ecstatic enthusiasm of their acclamations.
Why then, this change of heart? I must know why!
How can it be that they must crucify
My Son and Lord like this?
