A heartwarming film for a cold winter's day...

Excellent musical score, superb casting and poignant powerful acting by Philip Baker Hall. Thankful for Netflix. I've seen a lot of very good movies since our son got us a year's Netflix subscription. I know at times, it can be a bit "out of balance," this movie watching stuff, but it beats the damnable news!!! I've rather "had it" with the news so I've gone into a real "hermit mode" maybe even a bit of a reclusive lifestyle, but for now, it's fine. I get to daily Mass, receive Jesus every day, should perhaps do more spiritual reading, (it goes in spurts as always) scriptures and praying, but it's movies for now. The Lord speaks to me through them, too. He's able to do that, ya know. :) A little 'escapism' perhaps, but I'm thinking it's "OK" for now. The movies I've watched and that we've watched have had much spiritual/human depth. They've caused hubby and me to talk about various things, which books do also, but there are really good movies out there, they're just not always known, and not so much at theaters, but independent films that tug at your heart without being overtly soppy or over-the-top sentimentality. Anyone for a movie day?? How about next Tuesday after ROJAS?

We know what you mean about the "reclusive" lifestyle. We've been talking about the idea of how we can maintain a sense of 'cloister" with daily Mass devotions, little less socializing, entertainment, internet, etc focusing more on the inward life draing us to Him.
God bless your New year

Maybe it's just 'getting older' but not having ever really been a total "social butterfly" I've been much more of a "homebody" than ever the last 2 years. Now, I've really had my "wish" or prayer answered, having quit my part time job in Sept. and just being "home." I wanted to go to morning mass daily and be with the 'retired' people I saw...and not have to go to work, so now, that's exactly what I'm able to do. I love it! I'm thinking of maybe becoming a little more active a Legion of Mary (I'm a non active member now...) because I do need "something" to "go to" and "do" but I'm taking it slowly. I'm also hoping that our "Tuesdays at ROJAS" (Mexican bar/grill)will become a 'outreach' to evangelize, also. I hope one day Sarah can get a job where she can have Mondays off, so it might be easier to have a priest join us for lunch. Kind of a 'Theology on Tap' for an older than college crowd. It's got much potential, so we shall see what God brings. All in is time, as He wills. God bless and happy New Year to you and Deborah. :)
